Manual Lymph Drainage at Well Within

By Naomi Neustadt, LMT

Curious about Manual Lymph Drainage, but unsure of how it could help you or how long the session should be?

There are a few popular reasons to try Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD). As discussed in the previous post, MLD can help your immune system. Monthly 60-90 minute appointments are beneficial for us all when the goal is detox. You can also try a detox treatment in conjunction with a cleanse or to boost your immune system to prevent illness.

Regular MLD treatments are also very beneficial for people with autoimmune diseases such as Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It can help with pain relief, sleep and stiffness. If you have Fibromyalgia or CFS and have never had a Manual Lymph Drainage treatment before, you can start with a 30 minute session to see how your body will respond and work your way up to a longer full body session.

Another common reason to try MLD is to aid in the recovery from an injury or surgery. For example, a twisted ankle will heal faster when MLD is used to help decrease the swelling. As Manual Lymph Drainage is very light, it can be used on or around injured areas. MLD can be used in preparation for a surgery to aid in recovery time. It is also beneficial to have MLD right after surgery to help decrease the swelling and decrease pain. Depending on the area, a 30 minute session may be enough for a focused treatment.

The time required for a Manual Lymph Drainage session can be different for each person. For a petite person, there will be less hand positions needed to complete each limb. Where as for a larger person, more hand positions may be necessary in an area.

30 minutes: This is enough time for a focused treatment. Neck and face focus can help with sinus drainage. A problem area such as a shoulder, knee or ankle could be treated.

60 minutes: This is enough time for most people to have a full body treatment (but may not include the head/face).

90 minutes: This is a enough time for a full body treatment including the head/face.

Wondering what kind of treatment would be best for you? Naomi is happy to answer your questions and help determine how MLD can help you and the length of session needed.
