Prenatal Massage

Prenatal Massage

Prenatal massage is both safe and beneficial for women throughout their entire pregnancies. It is important to take good care of yourself during your pregnancy to get the best chance for a healthy birth and baby. Eating well, staying active and supporting your body’s health are all great ways to ensure a fulfilling and positive experience. Prenatal massage not only feels wonderful, but has many benefits, as well:

  • increased blood flow to baby
  • decrease in stress/anxiety
  • decreasing discomfort in neck, back, hips, legs and feet
  • decreasing normal levels of swelling in ankles and legs

There is no danger in getting a massage during your first, second or third trimesters as long as you are experiencing a normal pregnancy with no major complications. Our massage therapists are trained in technique, positioning and contraindications. There are certain areas of the body where deep tissue massage is contraindicated during pregnancy. Those areas are the posterior legs and the upper trapezius muscles (tops of shoulders). Your therapist may massage these areas with firm pressure, but will not use deep tissue techniques in these areas.

You should reschedule your massage if you are experiencing the following symptoms:

  • nausea
  • fever
  • bleeding
  • cramping
  • sudden swelling
